FUCK THE ETHICS!
When we talk about a director, most of you represent a stern person who cries, breaks down and humiliates everyone. It happens indeed , but it's not always so.
The director is a master of conflict. But the master of the conflict on the set. It doesn't mean that the conflict should be created in the whole life. Humiliate your colleagues is not a sign of professionalism.
So, at the age of 18, I got on the set of "What Men Talk About" and there I saw a completely different director. He spoke politely to everyone, didn't humiliate anyone, didn't even shout. So I realized that the director is a completely different person. And then I decided that I want to become a film director.
There are directors who are late for meetings or may come to the set at the last moment. I think this is not respectful to the whole film crew.
Let's go back to the source. Wonderful ancestor Stanislavsky wrote a thin little book "Ethics" especially for us. This should be the basis with which you should start a profession.
Consider the basic tenets of this instructions:
1. The director is responsible for everything! If your movie got a success, this is all crew work done. If it fail, then this is the director's fault.
2. The director should be the first to arrive at the set. You set the temp of all the crew work. Everyone will relate to timing, as well as you do. Be an example!
3. The playground is your second home. See the trash? Paper cups? Don't pass by. You say it's not your job, let the guys from catering do that. Lift and throw in the trash! This is your second home, it should be clean. This is an example of your attitude to work.
4. Do not mess with any work. You are the creator of this movie. And your main goal is to make it good! Do not be ashamed to help with costumes, or bring props. Yes, this is the work of the stockists and costumers. But for well done movie is not ashamed to do any work, if it's necessary!
5.Create conflicts on the playground, not in life! A film crew is people who embody your purpose. Treat them with respect, rather than stir up conflicts. This doesn't work on the result in the frame!
I can talk a lot of conclusions of this book. I recommend it for mandatory reading to those who chose to be a film director. From your attitude depends all life on the set, not only in the frame, but also behind the scenes.
Happy holidays and successful projects to all of you next year!
