ANTI-HERO OR ANTAGONIST?
Often these two concepts are confused. Let's figure it out.
An anti-hero is a protagonist, that is, the main character, simply endowed with negative qualities - bad-boy.
And the antagonist is a character who opposes the protagonist.
So, if our hero is bad gay, then his antagonist may be a policeman, who is actually not such a good person!
Why do we empathize with Anti-heroes? He attracts with its inconsistency.
As Shakespeare said: "Every little black has a little white, and every little white has a little black."
According to the drama, the anti-hero is endowed with not only negative qualities, but also positive ones. It makes him closer to the viewer.
The hero should have different qualities. It makes basis of which his motivation is formed: external - the final goal; and internal - the reason why he wants to achieve this goal. But with the anti-hero everything is more complicated - it is not predictable, therefore it is so interesting! He may not change at the end or “give himself up” - and remain bad. This antihero is so fascinating to us.
Often the antihero has some super talent. Ex: “The wolf from the Wall street” is an anti-hero, but he has tremendous perseverance in achieving his goal, which does not leave us indifferent and even causes admiration.
Antiheroes are very loved in Hollywood - Deadpool, Suicide Squad, Venom. Also to the anti-heroes can be attributed the French film Pianist, and many more.
